Ngāpuhi Iwi Social Services

Ngāpuhi Iwi Social Services (NISS) is a team of dedicated kaimahi who are passionate about supporting the wellbeing of tamariki and whānau.

Our social workers have worked with whānau and their communities for more than 30 years, with specialisation in Ngāpuhi tikanga, Mātua Atawhai (Caregiving) and Ngāpuhi whakapapa.

OUR SERVICES

MĀTUA ATAWHAI

Mātua Atawhai are approved caregivers who provide a safe, nurturing and culturally appropriate environment for mokopuna (children) and taitamariki (youth) who cannot live with their parents or usual caregivers.

WHATA KAI

A NISS led initiative that addresses food insecurity through community collaboration and strengthens the existing kai support network across the rōhe.

FAMILY COURT SUPPORT

We support whanau and tamariki who may need to engage with the Kaikohe Family Court. We work, advocate and support whānau to prepare and navigate the family court processes.

WHAKAPAPA

We collaborate with whānau to connect with their whakapapa. We facilitate decision-making hui to advocate for tamariki and whānau's needs, enabling wellbeing and growth. We advocate for Ngāpuhi mokopuna and their whānau navigating the system, ensuring their voices and needs are met.

HOUHOU TE RONGO

(Whānau Healing and Restoration) - We work with Ngāpuhi whānau to address intergenerational trauma and find ways to achieve Hauora and well-being. We use a therapeutic process to understand and support the dynamics of their whānau.

TE TIRA TAI TAMARIKI

(Youth work & Development) - Our mentoring service for taitamariki aged 11-17 is dedicated to celebrating our Ngāpuhi whakapapa to guide our youth.

ORANGA WHĀNAU

We aim to facilitate support for whānau we work with including navigating hardship, holistic healing, getting through the courts, advocacy, whānau hui and safety planning.

SUPPORTING TAITAMARIKI

We offer youth-focused activities and community events that provide opportunities for engagement and growth and encourage a strong sense of identity.

TĀTAI HONO

Our team of Ngāpuhi Kaiārahi use their diverse talents and skills to journey alongside taitamariki to support their growth and development through the ups and downs of transitioning to young adults.
