Waitomo Papakāinga

For over 30 years, Waitomo Papakāinga has helped build resilience amongst our whanau of Te Hiku o Te Ika. Led by the Rawiri whanau, Waitomo Papakainga has provided a platform for reconnecting our whanau to their cultural identities and realising their own leadership capacities.

Tikanga Marae is a natural progression for our people. At Waitomo Papakāinga, we are building the leadership capacity of our whanau to be able to confidently deliver important roles on our Marae. We hope to utilise these associated art forms to develop meaningful connections to ira atua and the taiao. Individuals and whanau will learn how to self-manage their mana motuhake and will be empowered to thrive, live healthy lifestyles and set positive examples for intergenerational health and wealth.

OUR SERVICES

Tāne Te Waiora

The Tāne Te Waiora programme is a safe space for our tāne to reconnect with their whanau, hapu, iwi and their own ira atua through karakia, mihimihi, waiata, pepeha and whakapapa.

Mana Wahine

The Mana Wahine programme at Waitomo Papakainga offers a safe and empowering space grounded in Te Ao Māori, dedicated to women facing challenges such as domestic violence, trauma, substance abuse, and justice-related issues.

Kaitiaki Whānau

Waitomo Papakainga brings forth the teachings of our tūpuna so that our tamariki/mokopuna stand resolute in their tino rangatiratanga. We provide care services for tamariki/mokopuna and rangatahi in the care of Oranga Tamariki, who whakapapa to Te Hiku o Te Ika and the wider Te Tai Tokerau.

Te Hiku Pataka

Te Hiku Pataka is the only social supermarket serving Te Hiku o Te Ika and the demand increases every day. With the rising costs of living, we continue to support whanau by bringing forth the teachings of our tūpuna to share kōrero, share kai and overall, to share the load.

Justice Team

The Waitomo Papakāinga Justice Team provide support across Family Court, Youth Court and the District Court proceedings.

Social Service Support

Our Social Service support for whānau is guided by Te Ao Māori principles and practices. It is a whānau-based Kaupapa navigated by and for the communities we serve. With a focus on early intervention that enhances Mana Motuhake of all whānau engagements.

Emergency & Transitional Housing

Through our Community Housing, we focus on providing Social and Affordable Housing to whānau within Te Hiku o Te Ika, helping to create stable and secure living environments.

Whanau Team

Waitomo Papakāinga offers a range of Whānau Tautoko Services via our Whānau Team who will assess your needs and with your input, wrap tautoko around you. These may include, but not limited to: 1 on 1 or Relationship Whakawaatea; Whānau Hui and/or FGC facilitation, hosting or mediation; Advocacy with Oranga Tamariki, WINZ and other Government Agency; Kuia and Kaumātua advisory support.
